Pats sign five prospects prior to pre-season tilt with Warriors

The Regina Pats announced the signing of Sloan Stanick, Josh Paulhus, Daylan Wiegel, Parker Berge and Jacob Dewitt to WHL player agreements.

Stanick was originally drafted by the Everett Silvertips in the seventh-round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft before being traded to the Pats in a trade that saw Robbie Holmes go to Everett before the Pats re-acquired him this summer. The five-foot-eleven, 162-pound forward recorded 21 goals and 20 assists in 58 games for the Yellowhead Chiefs of the MMHL last season. He will be eligible to join the Pats on opening night.

Paulhus was added to the Pats 50-man protected list earlier this year during a season in which he put up 22 goals and 27 assists in 49 games earning Top Scorer and Team MVP honours with the Saskatoon Contacts of the SMHL. He will also be eligible to join the Pats on opening night.

Wiegel joins the Pats after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft by Regina. Last season he played for the Beardy’s Blackhawks of the SMHL and notched four goals and 11 points in 41 games.

An eighth-round pick of the Pats in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, Berge comes to the Pats from the CAC Canadians of the AMMHL where he had six goals and eight assists in 31 games last season.

Finally, Dewitt was a ninth-round pick of the Pats in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft from the Okanagan Hockey Academy of the CSSBHL last season. He notched one goal and 13 assists in 28 games last season and is the lone player from this group ineligible to play a full season with the Pats.

Jagger Firkus headlines the group after being selected in the fourth round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. He played his bantam hockey last season in Lloydminster, Alberta where he registered 33 goals and 32 assists in 30 games.

Also from the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft class is goaltender Kyle Kelsey who the Warriors selected with a fifth-round pick. He played for Burnaby Winter Club in the CSSHL where he posted a 2.67 GAA and .918 save percentage in 16 games.

Bryden Kiesman was an invite to Warriors training camp last season and impressed management enough that he was added to the Warriors 50-man protected list as a sixteen-year-old. Returning to the MMAAAHL last season, Kiesman had 17 goals and 12 assists in 45 games.

Kade Runke was also listed by the Warriors after a good showing at the Warriors 2018 training camp. He returned to the same league as Kiesman and tallied 23 goals and 40 assists in just 48 games.

Maximus Wanner went undrafted in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft but didn’t have to wait long to find a WHL team as the Warriors listed him shortly following the draft. Playing alongside Calvert at the Prairie Hockey Academy, Wanner had six goals and eight assists in 35 games.
