Silvertips sign Graham

The Everett Silvertips have signed listed-prospect Max Graham to a WHL Education Contract. Graham currently leads the BCMIML’s in points (47) and goals (26) in 25 games. The 2004-born forward will be eligible to join the Silvertips on a full-time basis next season.

Memorial Cup Schedule announced

The schedule for the 2020 Memorial Cup has been announced with host Kelowna kicking things off against the OHL Champion on Friday, May 22nd. The tournament will run for nine days with the Championship Game taking place on Sunday, May 31st.

Pederson in ICE lineup 

Despite being listed on the weekly WHL injury report as day-to-day, Owen Pederson was in the lineup for the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday against Calgary.

Kruger leaves game with injury

Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Ethan Kruger was injured on a rather innocent-looking play earlier in Wednesday’s game against the Red Deer Rebels. Kruger did not return to the game and there was no update on his status.

Weekly CHL Power Rankings

Not a lot of movement in the CHL Weekly Rankings this week. Portland (#2) and Edmonton (#5) were stagnant while Everett climbed to seventh spot and Kamloops fell to eighth. Lethbridge earned honourable mention.

Saurette taking over as MJHL commissioner

Kevin Saurette (153 GP, 15 G, 30 A with the Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans) will be taking over as MJHL commissioner for next season.

Bartosak signs in Sweden for rest of the year

Patrik Bartosak (145 GP, 2.59 GAA, 0.927 Save Percentage with 80-50-6-5 record from 2011-14) has signed with MODO Ornskoldsvik in Sweden for the rest of this season with a club option for next season. Earlier this season with Trinec in his home Czech Republic he played 11 games posting a 1.99 GAA and .933 Save Percentage.

Plihal signs in Germany for the rest of the season

Tomas Plihal (139 GP, 67 G, 96 A with the Kootenay ICE from 2001-03) has signed with Landshut in Germany for the rest of this season. Plihal started the year in his native Czech Republic with Kobra Prague scoring nine goals and 17 assists in 12 games before being loaded to Jablonec nad Nisou where he notched eight goals and 18 assists.

Langkow released Hungarian club

Chris Langkow (263 GP, 53 G, 101 A with the Spokane Chiefs, Saskatoon Blades and Everett Silvertips from 2005-10) has been released at his request by MAC Ujbuda Budapest in Hungary after tallying 23 goals and 17 assists in 40 games.

Valchar signs try-out in Hungary

Radim Valchar (152 GP, 32 G, 38 A with the Portland Winterhawks and Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2007-10) has signed a two-game contract with Jegesmedvek Miskolc in Hungary. Last year with Csikszereda Miercurea-Ciuc he led the league in goals (42) and finished second in points (85).

Red Deer Rebels forward Zak Smith was handed a five minute major and game misconduct for this hit on Brandon’s Connor Gutenberg. 

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Red Deer’s Arshdeep Bains had a goal and two assists

Second Star: Prince Albert’s Max Paddock made 17 saves in a shutout over the Victoria Royals

Third Star: Kamloops’ Dylan Garand made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Honourable Mention

Calgary’s Brayden Peters made 24 saves on 26 shots.

Weekly Report, report

Calgary Hitmen:

-After being listed as out day-to-day last week, Kyle Olson is now on the report as week-to-week with the lower body injury that has had him out since November 23rd.

Edmonton Oil Kings:

-Defenseman Jacson Alexander has had a tough season. He missed over two months, came back from injury and after missing all of last week’s games was officially listed as week-to-week with an upper body ailment. Fellow defenseman Wyatt McLeod is now on there as day-to-day after being there as out for 10-14 days last week. Import forward Jesse Seppälä missed over two months as well, came back last week and after being scratched Saturday and Sunday, is now on the report as week-to-week. 

Kelowna Rockets:

-Forward Michael Farren is day-to-day with an upper body issue and Liam Kindree is now nine weeks out. Also Noah Dorey was officially returned to Delta Prep of the CSSHL.

Medicine Hat Tigers:

-Import forward Jonathan Brinkman was day-to-day with an illness but played Tuesday and defenseman Nick Perna is day-to-day with a lower body ailment. 

Moose Jaw Warriors:

-Overage forward Owen Hardy missed Saturday’s game. He is now listed as out 4-5 weeks with an upper body injury. Fellow overage Carson Sass was 1-2 weeks out last week and is now 2-3 weeks. Defenseman Cole Jordan’s upper body injury has been given the timespan of “TBD.”

Prince George Cougars:

-Forward Nikita Krivokrasov was out for Saturday’s game and is now officially out week-to-week with a lower body injury. 

Regina Pats:

-Everyone seems to be getting healthier. Kyle Walker is now day-to-day, Jakob Brook is now 4-6 weeks and Makai Mitchell is now 2-3 weeks out after all were listed as out for much longer last week. Oddly enough, Drew Englot was not listed on the report. Zack Wytinck also seems to have recovered from his illness. 

Tri-City Americans:

-After trying to play in their last two games last week, Luka Zazula is officially out day-to-day with a lower body injury. Paycen Bjorklund also joined the report as out week-to-week with an upper body injury. 

Vancouver Giants:

-Not surprisingly, Zach Ostapchuk is listed as out indefinitely with a lower body injury after being seen on crutches after a game last week. 

Victoria Royals:

-Goalie Shane Farkas listed as day-to-day with an upper body ailment. Will Warm is also out 1-2 weeks.
