Royals name Derungs Impact Player of the Year

The Victoria Royals have named Keanu Derungs the 2019-20 Impact Player of the Year. Playing in his first year in the WHL as an import, Derungs had 15 goals and 14 assists in 57 games.

Ekren-Bratton joins Moose Jaw AAA

Medicine Hat Tigers third-round pick Blake Ekren-Bratton will be joining the Moose Jaw Warriors AAA for the 2020-21 season. He played 27 games for the North East Wolfpack Bantam AA in 2019-20 scoring 19 goals and adding 18 assists.

Ferster signs with Trojans

Medicine Hat Tigers 2018 fourth-round pick Ashton Ferster has committed to the Tisdale Trojans for 2019-20. Last season with the SMHL’s Prince Albert Mintos he recorded 10 goals and 11 assists in 31 games.

Stoner joins South Island Royals

Clayton Stoner (189 GP, 23 G, 70 A with the Tri-City Americans from 2002-2005) has joined the South Island Royals as an Associate Coach and Advisor of Player Development with the U15, U16, and U18 programs. Stoner joins the Royals after 12 years in the pros with stops in Houston, Minnesota, Banska Bystrica, Anaheim, San Diego and Las Vegas before retiring after the 2017-18 season.

Smejkal signs in Finland

Jiri Smejkal (130 GP, 17 G, 42 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Kamloops Blazers from 2014-16) has signed a one-year contract with Tappara Tampere in Finland. He played the 2019-20 season with Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic scoring 13 goals and adding 18 assists in 47 games.

Zudilov signs extension in Russia

Yegor Zudilov (64 GP, 7 G, 16 A with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2017-18) has signed a one-year extension with MHK Krylia Sovetov Moscow in Russia’s MHL. Last season he had seven goals and five assists in 32 games.

Zorko signs extension in Slovenia

Luka Zorko (26 GP, 1 G with the Prince George Cougars in 2015-16) has signed a two-year extension with Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia. Last season he notched four goals and 14 assists in 35 games.

Ginnell passes away at 58

Some sad news to report as Kevin Ginnell, who played with the Lethbridge Broncos, Medicine Hat Tigers and Calgary Wranglers from 1978-1982, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 58. DUBNetwork sends its condolences to all those who knew him.
