The Victoria Royals and the Kootenay Ice made a minor trade Saturday, with the Royals acquiring a 2019 sixth and seventh round pick and a conditional pick in 2022 from Kootenay for the rights to unsigned ’02 Carter Loney and a seventh round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
Loney was selected in the 10th round, 202nd overall by Victoria in 2017 and is currently committed to play for the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2021-22 season. This season with the Rink Hockey Academy of the CSSHL, he has 23 points in 20 games as well as four points in six games with the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL. With all of the rumours and almost certainty of Kootenay relocating to Winnipeg, this move is interesting with Loney being from Winnipeg.
