We mentioned in yesterday’s Daily Dose that Kelowna Rockets overage forward Kyle Topping suffered an injury in Wednesday’s game against Victoria. The Rockets have now confirmed that the injury is a lower-body injury and he will be re-evaluated with more details to come in the next couple of days.

Connor Zary has been named the WHL’s player of the month after tallying five goals and a league-leading 16 assists in September and October. His hot start has included six multi-point games and a 13-game point streak. The only game he has failed to register a point in was the Kamloops Blazers’ first game of the season.

Posting a 7-3-0-0 record, 1.75 GAA and .945 Save Percentage, Everett Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf has been named the WHL’ goaltender of the month. Wolf’s two shutouts are also tied for the league lead and he is in the top five in all other goaltender stats categories.

Nikita Scherbak (130 GP, 55 G, 105 A with the Saskatoon Blades and Everett Silvertips) has reached a mutual termination of his KHL contract with Avangard Omsk. He notched two goals and four assists in 16 games this season.
Bliznak announces retirement
Mário Bližňák (Vancouver, 2005-2008) announced his retirement. Last season with Dukla Trenčín (Slovakia, Extraliga) 23 GP, 4+6. Bližňák had hip surgery in February and during his rehab, the doctors recommended he quit playing. 1/2

Mario Bliznak (183 GP, 36 G, 58 A with the Vancouver Giants) has announced his retirement after 11 pro seasons. His career included a six-game stint with the Vancouver Canucks who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft but was mostly spent in Europe. Bliznak underwent hip surgery in February and doctors recommended retirement from hockey.
