Following a unanimous vote, WHL Commissioner Ron Robison had another three years tacked onto his contract. He will now be the head of the league through the 2023-24 season. 2020-21 was his 21st season at the helm, tying him as the longest-serving commissioner of the WHL with Ed Chynoweth. Following four seasons as the head coach of the Okanagan HA U15 Prep team in the CSSHL, former Calgary Hitmen defenseman Mike Egener has been hired by the Red Deer Rebels. He will serve as an assistant coach behind Steve Konowalchuk. DUBNetwork has more on Egener’s hiring HERE.

The Prince George Cougars have released 2001-born forward Brendan Boyle (132GP, 3G, 4A with Prince George ’17-’21). The Cougars now have 2001-born forwards Jonny Hooker, Tyson Upper, Ethan Browne, and Connor Bowie. They also have defenseman Majid Kaddoura and goaltender Taylor Gauthier eligible to return as overage players in 2021-22.

2001-born Alex Morozoff (172GP, 27G, 18A with Red Deer, Seattle, and Saskatoon) has been released by the Saskatoon Blades. The Blades still have 2001-born forwards Tristen Robins, Blake Stevenson, and Evan Patrician eligible to return in 2021-22. They also have defenceman Rhett Rhinehart and goaltender Nolan Maier.

23-year-old forward Garrett Pilon (207GP, 69G, 123A with Kamloops and Everett ’15-’18) has signed a two-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals. The first year of the contract is a two-way deal, the second year is a one-way contract. Pilon got into one game with the Capitals in 2020-21, and 14 with the Hershey Bears scoring four goals and adding 12 assists. The Capitals selected Pilon in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

24-year-old defenseman Dmitri Osipov (270GP, 8G, 33A with Vancouver and Brandon ’13-’17) has signed a contract extension with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Osipov split the 2020-21 season between the IceHogs (22GP, 2G, 4A) and the ECHL’s Indy Fuel (16GP, 3G, 3A). The Vancouver Giants made Osipov the first overall pick at the 2013 CHL Import Draft.

29-year-old forward Elgin Pearce (254GP, 65G, 83A with Kootenay Ice and Medicine Hat ’09-’13) has returned to Gothiques d’Amiens for the 2021-22 season. Although Pearce did not play a regular-season game for the team, he was in France for six games before the 2020-21 season.
