Pats sign 2020 first overall pick in WHL Bantam Draft 

The WHL Bantam Draft gets underway later this morning and the Pats have already signed the first overall pick. The team announced that they’ve signed Connor Bedard to a WHL Education Contract and will be selecting him with the first overall pick in this morning’s draft. Bedard became the first Western Canadian player to receive exceptional status this spring, making him eligible to join the Pats full-time for the 2020-21 season. Blades acquire, sign Streek to WHL Education contract

The Saskatoon Blades acquired prospect Carter Streek from the Portland Winterhawks for Victoria’s fifth-round pick in today’s WHL Bantam Draft. Streek had yet to sign with the Winterhawks but wasted no time reaching an agreement with the Blades. Playing for Yale Hockey Academy in the CSSHL, he had nine goals and 19 assists in 33 games this season.

Frey transitioning to Senior Advisor role

The Kelowna Rockets announced that today’s WHL Bantam Draft will be Lorne Frey’s last as assistant general manager and director of player personnel. Frey will be transitioning to a senior advisor role, which will allow him to stay closer to home in Swift Current. Frey has been with the Rockets since their inaugural season in Tacoma in 1991-92 and was the first employee hired by Owner Bruce Hamilton.

WHL names Eastern and Western Conference Player of the Year

Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Year. The Buffalo Sabres prospect finished seventh in points in the WHL with 38 goals and 47 assists in 51 games this season.

Spokane Chiefs forward Adam Beckman led the league with 48 goals and 59 assists in 63 games this year and earns himself the Western Conference Player of the Year Award in the WHL.

Wruck signs extension in Germany

Dylan Wruck (259 GP, 87 G, 169 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings from 2008-13) has signed an extension with Heilbronner Falken in Germany. Last season he had 24 goals and 64 assists in 51 games to lead the league in points and assists and earn himself the DEL2 Forward and Player of the Year.

Delnov signs extension in Russia

Alexander Delnov (140 GP, 49 G, 63 A with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2012-14) has signed a contract extension with Tambov for the 2020-21 season. Delnov joined Tambov for 18 games last season scoring three goals and adding seven assists.

Former Tiger Hollweg joins BCHL’s Express

Ryan Hollweg (233 GP, 94 G, 139 A with the Medicine Hat Tigers from 1999-2004) has joined the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express as an associate coach. Hollweg had spent the last two seasons as an associate coach with the Vancouver NW Hawks in the BCMML after retiring from a 14-year pro career that included stops with Hartford, New York, Toronto, San Antonio, Phoenix, Portland, and Plzen.
