Regina Pats forward Robbie Holmes was not in the lineup for the Pats on Sunday as he is facing a suspension for this hit on Edmonton’s Keegan Slaney.

Pats recall Kieper from MMHL

With Danton Belluk sidelined due to an injury suffered in Saturday’s loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Regina Pats recalled goaltender Matthew Kieper from the MMHL’s Winnipeg Bruins for Sunday’s matchup with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Kieper has one WHL game on his resume with a 10.24 GAA and .615 save percentage.

Kohner out for Cougars

Mitchell Kohner, who recently played in his 100th WHL game, was not in the lineup for Prince George against Seattle on Sunday. No word on what kept him out of the lineup.

Delta wins inaugural WHL US Cup 

With a 4-3 win over Yale Hockey Academy in the championship game, Delta Hockey Academy Green are the first-ever WHL U.S. Challenge Cup champions. The three-day tournament featured 12 teams from B.C. and the Western United States.

Oilers and Red Wings swap WHL alumni 

The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Mike Green (267 GP, 37 G, 135 A with the Saskatoon Blades from 2000-05) from the Detroit Red Wings for forward Kyle Brodziak (273 GP, 81 G, 104 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors from 1999-2004) and a conditional pick in the 2020 or 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

WHL Alumni lead UBC to a huge upset victory 

The UBC Thunderbirds (9-14-5) are off to the Canada West Championship and the USports National Championship thanks to a huge upset victory over the University of Alberta Golden Bears (23-5). The UBC squad was led by ex-WHLers like Tyler Sandhu (318 GP, 90 G, 138 A with the Everett Silvertips, Red Deer Rebels and Tri-City Americans from 2012-17), Rylan Toth (158 GP, 2.76 GAA and .906 Save Percentage with the Red Deer Rebels and Seattle Thunderbirds from 2014-17), Austin Glover (224 GP, 51 G, 95 A with the Kelowna Rockets, Prince Albert Raiders and Red Deer Rebels from 2011-17) and Jake Kryski (319 GP, 78 G, 135 A with the Kamloops Blazers, Kelowna Rockets and Calgary Hitmen from 2013-19). The Thunderbirds will now head to Saskatchewan to take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

First Star: Prince George’s Taylor Gauthier made 25 saves on 26 shots in a 2-1 win over Seattle

Second Star: Regina’s Donovan Buskey made 31 saves on 34 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over the Brandon Wheat Kings

Third Star: Everett’s Dustin Wolf made 35 saves on 37 shots in a 6-2 win over Portland.
