Oil Kings sign six players

The Edmonton Oil Kings announced the signing of six players to WHL Standard Player Agreements.

Of the six, only Braeden Wynne was not selected by the Oil Kings at a previous WHL Draft.

Hitmen sign four prospects

The Calgary Hitmen announced that they have signed their sixth-round 2020 WHL Draft pick David Adaszynski to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The 16-year-old forward played four games with the Burnaby Winter Club Prep team in the CSSHL U18 league, collecting one goal and two assists in 2020-21.

The Calgary Hitmen announced that they have signed their sixth-round 2019 WHL Draft pick Matthew Sutter to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The 17-year-old defenceman played 56 games with the Northeast Generals of the NAHL, collecting five assists.

The Calgary Hitmen announced that they have signed their seventh-round 2020 WHL Draft pick Alex Garrett to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The 16-year-old goaltender did not play in 2020-21. In 2019-20 he was 12-5-0 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage in 17 games with the Saskatoon Generals U15 AA team.

The Calgary Hitmen announced that they have signed listed player Matteo Danis to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The 16-year-old forward played three games with CRAA Blue U16 AAA of the Alberta Elite Hockey League, scoring one goal and adding one assist.

Whittle signs with Silvertips

17-year-old defenceman Dexter Whittle has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Everett Silvertips.

The Silvertips selected Whittle in the seventh round of the 2019 WHL Draft. Last season with the Southwest Cougars U18 AAA team, Whittle scored two goals and added four assists in eight games.

Harrison heads to Rapid City

24-year-old defenceman Chase Harrison (17 goals, 94 assists in 240 games with Regina 2013-17) has signed with the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL.

Last season Harrison played 17 games for the Jacksonville Icemen, he did not record a point.

McDonald signs with Everblades

23-year-old forward Kody McDonald (95 goals, 103 assists in 323 games with Prince George, Prince Albert, and Victoria 2013-19) has signed with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Last season McDonald did not play a game but was a member of Carleton University in Ottawa, ON in 2019-20. He had five goals and seven assists in 24 games.

McAuley returns to Idaho

25-year-old forward Colby McAuley (44 goals, 52 assists in 191 games with Prince George 2014-17) has signed for a second stint with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

Last season McAuley played 20 games with the Allen Americans, scoring eight times and adding eight assists. He has played 137 ECHL games with four teams.

Spartak Moscow signs Virtanen

25-year-old forward Jake Virtanen (85 goals, 76 assists in 192 games) has signed a one-year contract with Spartak Moscow of the KHL.

Virtanen was bought out of his NHL contract with the Vancouver Canucks following sexual misconduct allegations that have yet to be proven in court. The Vancouver Police Department has launched an investigation into the allegations.

Virtanen had five goals in 38 games with the Canucks in 2020-21.
