Team Canada opened the Hlinka Gretzky Cup with a dominating 6-0 victory over Finland on Monday. Portland Winterhawks forward Seth Jarvis led the way with two goals while Brandon Wheat Kings forward Ridly Greig added a goal of his own. Vancouver Giants forward Justin Sourdif also registered an assist for the Canadians in the victory, which marks their 10th consecutive win at the tournament.

The Czech Republic also found themselves in the win column on home ice on the opening day of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Kelowna Rockets import pick Pavel Novak and Everett Silvertips import pick Michal Gut each notched goals in the victory. Victoria Royals import pick Keanu Derungs recorded a goal from the Swiss side in the loss.
Longtime WHL Director of Education passes away at age of 82

DubNetwork is saddened to learn of the passing of longtime WHL Director of Education Jim Donlevy who passed away on Sunday at age 82. Joining the league in 1992, Donlevy spent over 20 years with the league and was instrumental in the creation of the WHL scholarship program which has seen over 6,000 scholarships accessed and a total of over $25 million invested by WHL teams according to the league. Prior to joining the WHL, Donlevy also dedicated over 15 years of service to developing Canadian football. He also worked as the Education Coordinator at the Kimberley Academy, an all-female elite hockey program in Kimberley, B.C. DubNetwork would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
