Iorio signs with Capitals

The Washington Capitals announced they have signed their 2021 second-round draft pick Vincent Iorio to a three-year entry-level contract.

Iorio, who is from Coquitlam, BC, has played 133 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings, piling up 10 goals and 30 assists. This includes his two assists in two games this season.

WHL announces its ‘Goalie of the Week’

20-year-old Swift Current Broncos netminder Isaac Poulter was named WHL ‘Goalie of the Week’ for the week ending October 3rd.

Poulter was one of two goaltenders to earn a shutout over the weekend, and one of four goalies to win both games their team had played. Between the two games, he made 49 saves on 51 shots giving him a 1.00 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage.

WHL names its ‘Player of the Week’

19-year-old Winnipeg ICE forward Owen Pederson was named the WHL’s ‘Player of the Week’ for the week ending October 3rd.

Through two games, Pederson scored three goals and added three assists as the Winnipeg ICE won both its games over the weekend. The six points gave Pederson a one-point lead in the overall points standings, ahead of teammate Mikey Milne and two Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Mississauga grabs Basran off waivers

The Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga Steelheads have scooped 20-year-old goaltender Roman Basran off waivers.

Basran played 119 WHL games with the Kelowna Rockets, posting a 52-40-11 record along with a 2.89 goals-against average, and a .905 save percentage. Basran did play one preseason game with the Everett Silvertips this season, a 6-2 loss, before being waived.
