Ridly Greig (123GP, 40G, 56A with Brandon) has signed his entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators. Greig was the 28th overall selection at the 2020 NHL Draft and is the third signee for the Senators of this draft class. Greig was a member of Team Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp but was ultimately cut due to COVID-19 related illness, deeming him unable-to-play. Our own Darnell Duff has more here.

Ryan Stanton (242GP, 19G, 83A with Moose Jaw ’05-’10) has signed a professional try-out agreement with the Edmonton Oilers. The undrafted Stanton has played the last three seasons with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate, Bakersfield Condors. Stanton does have 120 games of NHL experience over five different seasons with Chicago, Vancouver, and Washington.

What was to be a regular bus ride to a game in another WHL city turned tragic on this day 34 years ago. Trent Kresse, Scott Kruger, Chris Mantyka, and Brent Ruff all passed following the bus accident. Many details of the tragedy are forever preserved in an in-depth book by Gregg Drinnan called Sudden Death.
