Daily Dose of the Dub: Giants take Game 1 in Prince Albert, Fix-Wolansky and Heatherington make pro playoff debuts

Giants have 1-0 series lead in WHL Final

It was truly a back and forth affair in Prince Albert as the Vancouver Giants took Game 1 over the Prince Albert Raiders with a 5-4 victory. Bowen Byram led the way for the Giants with four assists while Dawson Holt continued his breakout playoff performance with two goals. On the Prince Albert side, Dante Hannoun was the offensive leader with a goal and an assist. The Raiders will look to bounce back in Game 2 at home on Saturday and head to Vancouver with a split series for Game 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary). This is the third straight year the road team has won Game 1 of the WHL final. In 2018 the Swift Current Broncos came back to beat the Everett Silvertips while in 2017 the Seattle Thunderbirds held on to beat the Regina Pats.

Fix-Wolansky makes pro debut

Edmonton Oil Kings captain Trey Fix-Wolansky made his pro debut on Friday night with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL in Game 2 of their second-round playoff series against the Toronto Marlies. In 65 regular season games, Fix-Wolansky had 37 goals and 65 assists. He played 16 playoff games for the Oil Kings registering six goals and eight assists before the Oil Kings were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Final by Prince Albert.

Heatherington makes NHL playoff debut

Dillon Heatherington (247 GP, 13 G, 74 A with the Swift Current Broncos) made his NHL playoff debut with the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their second-round series against the St. Louis Blues. Heatherington played 7:56 on the blueline for the Stars and had a hit and a block.

First Star: Vancouver’s Bowen Byram had four assists, he now has a WHL-leading 22 playoff points.

Second Star: Vancouver’s captain Jared Dmytriw had a goal and two assists.

Third Star: Prince Albert’s Dante Hannoun had a goal and an assist.

Vancouver’s Dawson Holt had two goals for the Giants while Prince Albert’s Parker Kelly had two assists.
