Canadian Hockey League cancels 2020 Playoffs and Memorial Cup

The Canadian Hockey League announced the cancelation of the 2020 CHL Playoffs and Memorial Cup, which was set to be held in Kelowna at the end of May. Our Paul Figler has the full story here. 

Wild sign Beckman

The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Adam Beckman to an NHL Entry-Level Contract. Drafted in the third round of last June’s NHL Entry Draft, Beckman had 48 goals and 59 assists in 63 games with the Spokane Chiefs this season.

ICE sign Boucher to WHL Education Contract

The Winnipeg ICE has signed 2019 eighth-round WHL Bantam Draft pick Owen Boucher to his WHL Education Contract. Boucher spent the 2019-20 season with the Fort Sask Rangers in the Alberta Minor Midget League scoring 16 goals and adding 23 assists in 37 games. He is their fourth 2004-born player to sign with the organization.

Winterhawks send email to fans updating ticket situation

The Portland Winterhawks sent out an email on Monday updating fans on the status of tickets purchased for canceled games. They are asking fans who have purchased tickets to visit account.winterhawks.com to ensure that the information on file is correct and fans will be contacted individually about their tickets.

Winterhawks lay off some of their staff

DubNetwork has learned that the Portland Winterhawks laid off a number of their staff within the organization on Monday following the cancellation of this year’s playoffs and Memorial Cup. There is no word on how many staff are affected or what department these layoffs are coming in.

Americans hand out year-end awards

The Tri-City Americans handed out their year-end awards on Monday evening over Twitter:

  • Sasha Mutala won the Three Stars Award and was named the Offensive Player of the Year as well as MVP.
  • Connor Bouchard was named the Humanitarian of the Year and Hardest Working Player.
  • Sam Huo was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player.
  • Marc Lajoie and Edge Lambert were named Co-Winners of the Rookie of the Year award.
  • Luke Zazula was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Griffin wins Academic Excellence Award

Prince George Cougars forward Davin Griffin has been awarded the Dr. Jeff Zorn Award for Academic Excellence.

Predators sign Ingram to a three-year contract

The Nashville Predators have signed goaltender Connor Ingram (158 GP, 2.68 GAA, .918 Save Percentage, 81-50-9-9 record with the Kamloops Blazers from 2014-17) to a three-year contract. This year with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals he posted a 1.92 GAA and .933 save percentage in 33 games.
