WHL reports zero positive COVID cases

The WHL has reported no positive COVID-19 tests as of March 5, 2021.
1,554 tests have been administered between February 12 to March 5, allowing the U.S. Division teams to begin on-ice practices last Friday.
Tri-City Americans sign prospect

2019 bantam draft pick of the Tri-City Americans, Elouann Lemonnier, has signed with the club. Lemonnier has taken part in 12 games for the Dallas Stars 16U AAA this season, posting four goals and two assists. Lemonnier was an 11th round 2019 WHL Draft pick of the Americans.

Goaltender Jari Kykkanen, a 2019 sixth-round Kelowna Rockets bantam draft pick, has signed a Letter of Intent with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL. Kykkanen will be heading to the Thunder next season while this season, he has appeared in three games for the Yale Hockey Academy U18 Prep team. In those three games, he has put up a 2.92GAA and a .842 save percentage.

Defenseman Aaron Irving (276GP, 42G, 99A with Edmonton and Everett ’13-’17) has re-signed with HC Livínov of the Czech League. He has appeared in 52 games with the team this season and added 12G and 6A as they head into playoffs. Irving was a sixth-round NHL draft pick of the Nashville Predators in 2016. He was also a member of the 2013-14 Edmonton Oil Kings team that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup and the Memorial Cup.

Defenseman Brent Johnson was an 11th round 2018 WHL draft pick of the Everett Silvertips. This season with the Sioux Fall Stampede of the USHL, Johnson has 11 goals and 13 assists in 36 games. His commitment to the University of North Dakota is for the 2022-23 season.

Forwards Noah Gregor (257GP, 129G, 164A with Moose Jaw, Victoria, and Prince Albert ’14-’19) and Alex True (169GP, 45G, 39A with Seattle ’14-’17) have both been reassigned to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. Both participated in last night’s game in which Gregor recorded both an assist and a goal in a 4-2 win over the San Diego Gulls.

The New York Rangers have reassigned forward Jake Elmer (204GP, 64G, 70A with Regina, Kootenay, and Lethbridge ’15-’19) from the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack to the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL.

The schedules for the B.C. Division teams have been released meaning we now have schedules for the entire WHL. March 26 will be the opening day of the division as the Kamloops Blazers host the Vancouver Giants and the Kelowna Rockets host the Victoria Royals at the Kamloops and Kelowna hubs respectively.
