NHL Central Scouting releases mid-season rankings

The NHL Central Scouting Bureau has released its midseason rankings for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and a total of 51 WHL players have made this list. Headling the group this year are Kaiden Guhle (Prince Albert Raiders), Braden Schneider (Brandon Wheat Kings) Connor Zary (Kamloops Blazers) Ozzy Weisblatt (Prince Albert Raiders) and Seth Jarvis (Portland Winterhawks). Discipline announced for Blazers-Rockets brouhaha 

The WHL has handed out discipline to the Kamloops Blazers and Kelowna Rockets for actions each team participated in the closing moments of Saturday night’s game. The Kelowna Rockets have been fined $3000 while defenseman Kaedan Korczak receives a three-game suspension which will sideline him for this weekend’s U.S. division swing against Everett and Portland. The Kamloops Blazers were also fined $1500.

Butt facing suspension from WHL

Everett Silvertips forward Dawson Butt is awaiting word on the length of his suspension for his actions in the last five minutes of the game against the Regina Pats on Sunday. The Silvertips are also being fined $500.

Beaupit released from active roster by Chiefs

Mason Beaupit has been released from the active roster by the Spokane Chiefs. In three games this season, he’s posted a 4.55 GAA, 0.833 Save Percentage and 1-0-1-0 record. The Chiefs don’t say where he’s headed but he should be heading back to the BCMML’s Valley West Giants where he’s played 16 games this season.

Conditions on two Portland trades revealed

Our Josh Critzer has dug up the conditions involved in two recent Portland Winterhawks trade:

  • Isaiah DiLaura to Swift Current (01/08/20): Winterhawks receive a conditional seventh-round pick in 2021 that becomes a sixth-round pick if he plays 25 games
  • Shane Farkas to Victoria (05/02/19): Winterhawks receive a conditional 2020 pick. It is currently a sixth-round pick as Farkas has played 1000+ minutes. If he makes it 2000+, the pick will become a fourth-round pick.

Wightman signs with Rockets

As per his social media, Dylan Wightman has signed with the Kelowna Rockets. In 26 games this season with the BCMML’s Okanagan Rockets, he has tallied 15 goals and 21 assists.

Jarvis named WHL Player of the Week

It was a great day for Seth Jarvis on Monday as he was also named the WHL Player of the Week. In three games this week, the Winterhawks forward recorded two goals and eight assists.

Farkas named WHL Goaltender of the Week

For the third time this season, Shane Farkas has been named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week. This week he recorded a pair of wins, a 0.49 GAA and .986 save percentage to earn the honours.

WHL announces full details for “Suits Up For Organ Donations” night 

We’ve been getting hints from the Edmonton Oil Kings about what the “WHL Suits Up For Organ Donations” night would look like and now the WHL has announced full details. Starting this Friday with the aforementioned Oil Kings until March 15, each Canadian-based team will participate in one of these games. Teams will wear special “Hockey Night in Canada” inspired jerseys and new this year we’ll see teams wearing helmet decals to commemorate the Logan Boulet effect and Green Shirt Day. Fans will also have the chance to win bobbleheads commemorating Hockey Night in Canada and Coach’s Corner history with Don Cherry and Ron Maclean.

Quenneville signs with IceHogs

Peter Quenneville (116 GP, 48 G, 78 A with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2013-15) has signed a professional try-out with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. The move means he will play with brother John Quenneville for the first time since they played together with Brandon. The IceHogs also announced that they have released Josh Winquist (301 GP, 101 G, 115 A with the Everett Silvertips) from his PTO after three games.

Najman signs contract extension in Czech Republic

Ondrej Najman (65 GP, 5 G, 20 A with the Spokane Chiefs in 2016-17) has signed a contract extension through the 2023-24 season with Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic. This season, he’s notched eight goals and 12 assists in 35 games.

Pechursky released in Russia

Alexander Pechursky (30 GP, 2.72 GAA, 0.907 Save Percentage and 15-10-1-1 record with the Tri-City Americans from 2009-2011) has been released by Mettalurg Novokuznetsk in Russia after playing in 11 games and posting a 4-4-2 record with a 3.33 GAA and .892 save percentage.
