Daily Dose of the DUB: Blazers sign Pearce, Rebels and Raiders make a trade, and alumni signings

 

Blazers sign Pearce

The Kamloops Blazers announced on Tuesday that they have signed their fourth-round pick, defenceman Rylan Pearce from the 2020 WHL Draft, to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Pearce, from Martensville, SK, spent the 2020-21 season playing for the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA team. In seven games he had one goal and one assist.

When the Blazers drafted Pearce, he was playing for the Martensville Marauders U15 AA team, where he posted 10 goals and 30 assists in 31 games.

Raiders acquire Sorensen

The Red Deer Rebels and Prince Albert Raiders made a trade on Tuesday afternoon. Headed to Prince Albert is 19-year-old defenceman Keaton Sorensen. In the shortened 2020-21 season, Sorensen had two assists in 23 games.

Headed to the Rebels is a conditional ninth-round 2022 WHL Draft pick. The conditions on the pick are unknown as of press time.

Shaw signs extension with Wild

22-year-old Lloydminster, AB forward Mason Shaw (47 goals, 116 assists in 161 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers 2014-18) has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Minnesota Wild.

Last season Shaw played 30 games with the Wild’s AHL affiliate in Iowa. He had eight goals and 14 assists.

Kannok-Leipert signs with AHL’s Canucks

21-year-old defenceman Alex Kannok Leipert (21 goals, 62 assists in 219 games with the Vancouver Giants 2016-21) has signed a one-year AHL contract with the Abbotsford Canucks.

Last season Kannok Leipert scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 22 WHL games with the Giants. He is a former sixth-round pick of the Washington Capitals at the 2018 NHL Draft.

Polei signs with Moose

25-year-old forward Evan Polei (72 goals, 59 assists in 242 games with the Saskatoon Blades and Red Deer Rebels 2013-17) has signed a two-year contract with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Last season in 15 games with the San Antonio Rampage, Polei scored three goals and added three assists.

Sylvester signs with Gladiators

29-year-old forward Cody Sylvester (97 goals, 132 assists in 315 games with the Calgary Hitmen 2008-13) has signed with the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL.

Last season, Sylvester appeared in 59 games with the Wheeling Nailers, also of the ECHL. He scored 25 goals and added 23 assists.

Sylvester was a member of the 2009-10 WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen.

Harrison signs with Mavericks

29-year-old forward Ryan Harrison (79 goals, 146 assists in 325 games with the Prince Albert Raiders, Medicine Hat Tigers, and Everett Silvertips 2007-13) has signed with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL.

The 2021-22 season marks Harrison’s return to North America after spending the last three seasons overseas. Last season Harrison played seven games for Gherdeina of AlpsHL, where he collected two assists.

Doetzel signs with DVTK Jegesmedvek

26-year-old defenceman Kayle Doetzel (5 goals, 49 assists in 292 games with the Red Deer Rebels 2011-16) has signed with DVTK Jegesmedvek of the Erste Liga in Hungary.

Last season in 28 games with the ECHL’s Allen Americans, Doetzel scored one goal and added six assists.

Bukarts signs with HC Admiral Vladivostok

25-year-old forward Rihards Bukarts (92 goals, 98 assists in 192 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Portland Winterhawks 2013-16) has signed with HC Admiral Vladivostok of the KHL.

Last season with Dinamo Riga, Bukarts scored 11 goals and added six assists in 33 games. He also represented Lativa in 10 games internationally, scoring twice.
