The Portland Winterhawks announced the club has added forwards Cross Hanas, Jack O’Brien, and James Stefan and defenseman Clay Hanus to the team’s active roster for the remainder of the 2020-21 WHL Regular Season. All four were playing for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. Their stats with the Stars are below:
- Hanas: 27GP, 3G, 13A, 99PIM
- O’Brien: 23GP, 1G, 6A, 22PIM
- Stefan: 41GP, 10G, 18A, 28PIM
- Hanus: 36GP, 7G, 20A, 42PIM

The Everett Silvertips announced they have recalled Matthew Ng, as an affiliate player. Ng has played in one game for the Silvertips this season. In 24 games with Culver Military Academy, Ng has nine goals and 15 assists. Ng is a fifth-round pick of the Silvertips from the 2019 WHL Draft.

Forward Luke Toporowski has been returned to the Chiefs following a stint with the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede. In 32 games with the Stampede, Toporowski scored 14 goals and added 19 assists. Toporowski is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs from the 2016 WHL Draft. Last season with the Chiefs he scored 29 goals and added 31 assists through 62 games.

The Seattle Thunderbirds announced that Colin Campbell has been named President of the hockey club. Campbell had been serving as the team’s Vice President of Business Operations for the last 19 seasons.

Following his two wins this weekend, Sebastian Cossa has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. In his first game, Cossa backstopped his team to a 3-0 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers for his third shutout this season. He then earned a 4-1 win over the Tigers two nights later. Overall, Cossa stopped 54 of 55 shots sent his way and improved his season stats to 14-0-0-1 with a 1.46 GAA, .945 SV% and three shutouts.

Earning nine points in three games last week, Brandon Wheat Kings forward Lynden McCallum was named WHL Player of the Week. Six of his seven goals on the week came on the power play and included a four-goal game on Sunday as the Wheat Kings won 5-1 over the Regina Pats.

Winnipeg ICE 2003-born defenseman Karter Prosofsky scored his first WHL goal in last night’s 4-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders. Prosofsky’s goal came at 15:20 of the third period and went on to be the game-winning goal for the ICE. Prosofsky was selected in the second round of the 20118 WHL Draft by the ICE.

As discussed on the 31 thoughts podcast, the QMJHL has been granted the next Memorial Cup according to QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. With the last two tournaments having been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the QMJHL will once again be the host of the Memorial Cup following the Halifax Mooseheads as the most recent host in 2019.

Forward Florian Baltram (69GP, 5G, 14A with Seattle and Lethbridge ’14-’15) has signed a contract extension with EC Red Bull Salzburg. Baltram has played six seasons with the club and had nine goals and 12 assists in 47 games in 2020-21. Baltram was a second-round pick of the Seattle Thunderbirds at the 2014 CHL Import Draft.
Defenseman Alexander Urbom (66GP, 12G, 21A with Brandon ’09-’10) has chosen not to return to EC Red Bull Salzburg following the 2020-21 season. It was Urbom’s first season with the club and he had one goal in four games. Urbom was the 23rd overall pick of the Brandon Wheat Kings at the 2009 CHL Import Draft.

2003-born Defenseman David Jiricek was named Czech Extraliga Rookie of the Year following a season in which he had three goals and six assists through 34 regular-season games. Jiricek has yet to play a game for the Chiefs who drafted him 54th overall at the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

Goaltender Patrik Bartosak (145GP, 80-50-11, 2.59GAA, .927sv% with Red Deer ’11-’13) has completed his contract with Pelicans of Liiga (Finland). This season Bartosak was 20-12-8, with a 2.19 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage in the regular season. In the playoffs, he was 2-3-0, with a 2.24 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.

Forward Roman Psurny (135GP, 45G, 58A with Medicine Hat ’04-’06) has signed a contract extension with HC Prerov of the Czech2 league. Psurny just completed his sixth season with the club, scoring 12 goals and adding 21 assists in 32 games.
