Sim earns first WHL shutout

Vancouver Giants 2003-born goaltender Drew Sim earned his first WHL shutout as the Giants defeated the Victoria Royals 4-0 last night. Sim made 16 saves to secure the shutout. Sim was selected in the third round of the 2018 WHL Draft. He improved his record this season to 2-1-0-0, with a 4.40 goals-against average and a .805 save percentage.

Edmonton Oil Kings 2003-born forward Jayden Henderson scored his first WHL goal last night in the team’s 4-0 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Henderson’s goal came at 7:44 of the first period to give the team a 2-0 lead. The seventh-round 2018 WHL Draft pick was playing in his 13th WHL game.

Team USA named its roster for the 2021 Men’s U18 World Championships on Thursday. Braden Holt is the only WHL roster player named to the team. Holt is 1-1-0 through two appearances with the Everett Silvertips this season with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .862 save percentage.

Forward Lauris Darzins (100GP, 32G, 35A with Kelowna ’04-’06) has signed an extension with Dinamo Riga of the KHL. Last season was the eighth with Riga for Darzins, and fourth as team captain. He scored seven goals and added 16 assists in 41 games. Darzins was a member of the 2004-05 WHL Championship winning Kelowna Rockets.

Defenseman Michael Fora (60GP, 6G, 26A with Kamloops ’14-’15) has earned a contract extension of two seasons with a clause by Ambri Piotta of the NL. Last season Fora was named captain of the team and scored seven goals and added 14 assists in 35 games.

Heffley was in his first full season in the SPHL, scoring five goals and adding eight assists through 31 games. Last season in eight games with the Allen Americans, Heffley had one goal.

In his second season with Dresdner, Helenius was 16-17-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average, and a .902 save percentage. Helenius was a first-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2006 NHL Draft and has one game of NHL experience.
