Oil Kings slip by Hurricanes on Military Appreciation Night

The Lethbridge Hurricanes took a few moments out of the evening to honor and support the troops tonight before the game. While sporting special military jerseys honoring them on the ice during this hockey game.

A special thank you to the men and women who have served or are serving this country, We will be forever grateful.

In the lone WHL game on Monday night, The Hurricanes were unable to come away victorious. Trey Fix-Wolansky led his Edmonton Oil Kings with three points including setting up the game winner by Vince Loschiavo in the third period in a 6-4 road win.

Edmonton got off to a hot start just a mere 14 second into this game. Brett Kemp struck with his 15th goal of the season. Oil Kings Captain Trey Fix-Wolansky and Vince Loschiavo draw the assists. Play evened out as the flow of the game set in before the Hurricanes Dylan Cozens sniped home the tying goal, his ninth of the year came at the 11:07 mark. Noah Boyko was credited with the lone assist on the play. The tie hockey game would not last long, The visitors applied pressure and it paid off as Liam Keeler put them back on top 2-1. Carter Souch and Quinn Benjafield got the helpers at 14:12 of the first period. Edmonton took the one-goal lead into the break and also held a one-shot lead in the contest 9-8.

The Middle frame started of with a bang just 1:18 in Captain Jordy Bellerive tied things at two apiece. His blast was assisted on by Igor Merezkho and Alex Cotton, who up until that point were a struggling minus-two on the night. The Bellerive goal sparked the Canes and led to some pressure which was rewarded by means of a power play, But it wouldn’t work to the home team’s advantage as the season of shorthanded goals against continued for the ‘Canes. Try Fix-Wolanksy tallied his 13th on the season Quinn Benjafield recorded his second assist of the night. Oil Kings added to their lead shortly before the end of the period. Conner MacDonald put home his sixth of the year from Vladimir Allstrov and Ethan Cap. Edmonton continued to hold the shot clock lead 20-12.

Edmonton then tried to nurse the 4-2 lead to begin the final frame, but it was not to be so. Lethbridge tallied another early period goal as Zach Cox just 53 seconds in. The goals was Cox’s fifth of the season and pulled the ‘Canes within one. Taylor Ross and Jordy Bellerive had the helpers. The play evened out for the next few minutes before Vince Loschiavo restored the two-goal lead for the Oil Kings at 5-3. Brett Kemp and Fix-Wolansky added the assists. The Hurricanes would quickly follow up the goal against with an answer just over a minute later as Cox trickled a shot through for his second of the night. Calen Addison and Igor Merezkho set the play up with 8:23 to play. Edmonton answered back, capping off the back and forth period with just over a minute to play, Jalen Luypen gave his team the insurance marker. The Oil Kings led start to finish in this one. Final shots also to the Oil Kings at 29-21.

Shooting the breeze: Reece Klassen took the loss while making 23 saves… Dylan Myskiw made just 17 saves but it was good enough for the win and helped Edmonton to improve to 13-7-1-1 on the season… The ‘Canes fall to 8-6-2-2… Both teams enjoyed three power plays… Edmonton went 1-for-3 while Lethbridge failed on all their attempts… Attendance announced at 3428
