Oil Kings acquire Miller

The Edmonton Oil Kings announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have acquired 2005-born forward Cole Miller from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Heading back to Lethbridge is a 2023 second-round WHL Prospects Draft pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick (via Kelowna).

Miller, 16, from Edmonton, AB has played 11 WHL games with the Hurricanes as part of last season’s team. He scored his only WHL goal on May 2, 2021. He was the 16th overall pick of the Hurricanes at the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft. This season he has nine assists through five games with Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep.

“When we drafted Cole, our belief was that he was going to be a good player for many years. Although we still believe that will be the case, it will not be as a Hurricane. It, unfortunately, wasn’t a fit for Miller to be a part of our organization,” said Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “We have been so lucky and proud that Hurricanes players play with pride and with great respect for our organization and community. We will continue to strive for that and to always be better. We want to wish Cole all the best as he continues his hockey career somewhere else.”

“The organization is excited to add Cole to our strong group of 2005 born players,” said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill.  “Opportunities to acquire elite young players don’t happen very often which made this potential deal attractive.

“Cole will add size and skill to our young core and be a big part of the immediate and future of the Oil Kings program. We would like (to) welcome the entire Miller family to the organization”

Miller has been added to the Oil Kings’ active roster.
