Hurricanes select twice at CHL Import Draft

The Lethbridge Hurricanes made two selections at today’s CHL Import Draft. The Hurricanes had the 11th and 115th overall selections and decided on a forward from Belarus and a forward from Slovakia.

The Hurricanes have had two players from Belarus join their team, most recently, Danila Palivko (123GP, 4G, 32A) was a member for two seasons. Slovakia has produced three roster players; Tomas Kopecky, Oliver Okuliar, and Juraj Bezuch.

At 11th overall, the Hurricanes took Yegor Klavdiyev, a 2003-born forward. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound Minsk, BLR native played for four different teams in 2020-21. Most notably, Klavdiyev played for Team Belarus at the U18 Worl Championships, scoring once and adding two assists. Klavdiyev also played in two professional leagues in 2020-21, for both Team Belarus U18 (Belarus2, 24GP 6G, 5A) and Dinamo-Molodechno (Belarus, 13GP 2G, 2A).

“After watching Klavdiev at the World Under-18 Championship in Dallas this spring, we liked what we were able to see and got a good sense of what his potential could be,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt in a press release. “We think he will be able to fit into our forward group for next season.”

Late in the draft, the Hurricanes selected 2004-born forward Peter Repcik. The 6-foot, 172-pound Kosice, SVK native played for three teams in 2020-21. With Team Slovakia U18 playing in the Slovakia2 league, Repcik scored nine goals and added 15 assists. At the U18 World Championships, Repcik had four goals and one assist in Slovakia’s three games.

“We’re happy to get Repcik where we did and to be able to add to our 2004 age group,” added Anholt. “He has some skill and we think he has the potential to eventually be a good player at our level.”
