Fabrizi signs with Rebels

For the third time in as many days, the Red Deer Rebels announced a signing of one of their recent WHL Bantam Draft picks.

This time it was the second of three second-round draft picks in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. Matteo Fabrizi joins the Rebels from the Yale Academy Lions Bantam Prep team that was 25-3-0-2 in the 2019-20 CSSBHL season.

Fabrizi signs his WHL Standard Player Agreement following being selected 31st overall.

The defenseman stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 214-pounds and turned 15 on March 23rd of this year. He had three goals and 15 assists in 23 games.

Shaun Sutter described Fabrizi following the draft. “He’s a big guy, huge, that can skate and he can move the puck. He looks like a pro, a smart player. He’s a guy we gave a first-round grade to the whole year, so to get him in the second round we felt that was a steal, there were a lot of good defensemen in his age group, he’s a really good player so to get him there, it was a shock that he was there, but there was no way we were passing on him,” was Sutter’s assessment of the hulking defenseman.
