Winnipeg sends McMaster to Victoria

The Victoria Royals and Winnipeg ICE announced a trade on Saturday after. Headed to the Royals is 2002-born defenseman, Anson McMaster. Headed to Winnipeg is a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

McMaster, who hails from Siksika, AB, was selected by the ICE in the second round of the 2017 WHL Draft. He has since played in 80 WHL games, scoring one goal and adding six assists. This season McMaster has one assist through four games. He is listed as being 6-foot-6, 210-pounds.

“Anson is a big, mobile defenseman with a strong work ethic and a heavy shot. We are excited to be able to add him to our defensive core,” Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach J.F. Best said of McMaster this morning.

The 19-year-old will travel to Victoria and is scheduled to be in the lineup this evening against the Prince George Cougars.
