Ty Halaburda impressive through Training Camp

Throughout training camp and preseason action, one rookie has stood out from the rest.

The player is Ty Halaburda.

The 32nd overall WHL Bantam Draft pick from 2020 has stepped up these last few weeks and maybe rewarded with a roster spot once the season starts.

Strong start

Halaburda was impressive from the start of Training Camp. He competed hard, won puck battles, and defended well. His speed was also noticeable as he could not only keep up with veteran players but beat them to pucks. Lastly, his skill was on display as he was able to show up his strong hand-eye coordination through drills and scrimmages.

The biggest asset Halaburda has is his determination. He doesn’t give up on the play and fights hard to keep position. That is one asset coach Dyck and the Giants coaching staff should be very excited about this upcoming season.

Working his way up the lineup

During the first preseason game, Halaburda was given elevated roles as the game went on. He found some chemistry with Kaden Kohle and Payton Mount as that line ended up being the best performing line that game. He also saw time on the power play and penalty kill as the game went on.

In the second preseason game, it was his faceoff ability that shined bright. According to the stat sheet, he finished the game 19/25 in the faceoff dot. With the departure of Tristen Nilsen and Eric Florchuk this season, the team will be looking for a reliable center that can win draws. It looks like they may have found their guy in Halaburda if he can put up performances as he did on Friday night.

Give The Kid A Chance

Based on Training Camp and preseason play, Halaburda deserves a chance to be on this roster. He has impressed and continues to get better each day. Although not a household name yet, fans should get used to hearing his name as he should be a difference-maker this season.
