Rockets End Homestand by Ending Blazers Win Streak

The Kamloops Blazers seven-game win streak is over. So is the Kelowna Rockets five-game homestand.

 

Nolan Flamand scored with 35 seconds remaining in the second period to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 3-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers.

 

The loss ended the Blazer’s ten-game winning streak. It is just the second loss of the year for Kamloops, with both happening at Prospera Place. The Rockets also beat the Blazers 4-2 on October 15.

Mark Liwiski and Colton Dach scored for the Rockets in the first period. Dach’s goal was 2.7 seconds remaining in the first period. Dylan Kuefler scored 37 seconds into the game. Josh Pillar scored in the second period.

Pavel Novak had a strong game for the Rockets. He had one assist and four shots on goal. Novak has stepped up his game so far this season, leading the team in points with 14.

Lastly, Kelowna was once again able to shut down Kamloops’ red hot power play. The Blazers went zero for three. Kamloops leads the division with 18 power-play goals scored far this season. This shows if you can hold Kamloops off the scoreboard with the extra man, your team has a good chance of winning.

 

In goal, Talyn Boyko made his debut had 27 saves for the win for the Rockets. The Drumheller native was acquired from the Tri-City Americans for a third-round pick in the 2024 Bantam Draft and goaltender Cole Tisdale. Dylan Garand of Kamloops had 24 saves in the loss.

Next Games

For the Number 3 ranked in the CHL Blazers, this was not a typical game for them. While they scored an early goal, they allowed two last-minute goals in a period. Colton Dach with two seconds to go in the first. And of course, Flamand with the winner. They have a home-and-home series with the Vancouver Giants this weekend. Friday at the Sandman Centre. Saturday in Langley.

For the 6-3-0-1 Rockets, they start a five-game road trip with a weekend series in Prince George. Kelowna has points in all six of their home games this year.
