Prince George set to take advantage of more favourable 2019-20 schedule

If you were hoping for scheduling changes for Nothern BC’s only WHL franchise, you got your wishes.

Whether you plan to watch the team on the road or at home, the Prince George Cougars have a number of favourable scheduling changes from last season.

On the road, the team sees less log jams of three games in three days going from three in 2018-19, to just one in the coming season. The team’s longest road trip is a multi-week trip through the prairies in mid-January.

At home, after many complaints of seemingly endless stretches on the road without any home games it seems like things have finally turned around.

Last season, fans saw the Cougars Sunday December 2nd, but did not see the team again until Friday January 11th. Even with the winter break excluded, it still adds up to 11 straight away from home.

In 2019-20, the longest absence from CN Centre for the Cats starts after their final home game before Christmas on December 14th until January 3rd when they start off 2020 against the Everett Silvertips.

The only downside for Cougars fans is that the team will finish the final six games of the season on the road as opposed to what has become the norm’, a home-and-home series against the Kamloops Blazers.

This could be a big deciding factor for a team that could very well be fighting for their playoff lives come March 2020 and let’s face it, playing at home is a lot easier than playing on the road.

Prince George will open their season at home when they host the Western Conference Champion Vancouver Giants on September 20th and 21st at CN Centre.

Also released was a number of planned ‘Feature Games’ by the organization including the traditional Teddy and Toque Toss, Country Night, and a brand new Oktoberfest feature game.

Here’s the breakdown of games for the Cougars by day of the week for 2019-20:

  • Monday- 2
  • Tuesday- 7
  • Wednesday- 9
  • Thursday- 0
  • Friday- 21
