Vancouver Giants GM Barclay Parneta is continuing to stay busy during the extended off-season, signing defenceman Damian Palmieri to a WHL Standard Player Agreement on Tuesday.
The six-foot-tall, 182-pound left-handed blue-liner was selected 87th overall in the fourth round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft out of the Delta Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team where he had 22 points (7G, 15A) in 29 games along with 52 penalty minutes. He spent the 2019-20 season with Delta’s 16U team.
Palmieri marks the Giants’ fourth signing in just six days and just the second player to commit to the organization from the 2019 draft class (Julian Cull being the other). The club already has three signed from last month’s WHL Bantam Draft (Leslie, Halaburda, Semeniuk).
The native of Delta, BC will be eligible to earn a full-time roster spot for the 2020-21 season as a 16-year-old.
Report from @DraftGeekHockey "He plays a flexible & robust style of game where he values making an impact every time he touches the ice and punishes opposing players every chance he gets. It’s not hard to see the physically appealing qualities with taking a player like him." #WHL
