Giants Rookies Stepping Up Early This Season

The Vancouver Giants have been getting strong production from their rookies this season. Whether it is in goal, on defence or upfront, the first time WHLers are stepping up when needed. Here is a rundown of how they have done so far this season.

Note: To qualify for this list, a player must have played at least four games this season and not played any in the WHL last season.

Jesper Vikman

Jesper Vikman has been solid so far this season. He has posted a 4-1-1 record with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .893% save percentage. His overall statistics did drop a bit after allowing seven goals to Kelowna on Wednesday night, but overall, he has been one of the Giants’ best players so far this season. Expect a call-up to the Swedish National Team once World Junior time approaches.

Fabian Lysell

The first-rounder of the Boston Bruins has wowed fans in every game so far this season with his stickhandling and speed. He is currently tied for second in points with nine through six games and leads the team with three power-play assists. Just Like Vikman, watch for him to be on Sweden’s World Junior Team this year.

Ty Halaburda

What more can be said about Ty Halaburda’s game. He has been constant throughout the season and is being rewarded with special teams work. His faceoff work has been impressive, with a 55.1% win percentage as he gets used to being an everyday player for Vancouver. Just like Ty Ronning, who also wore number seven, he will have a successful career with the Giants.

Jaden Lipinski

Jaden Lipinski has become a solid shut-down third-line center for the Giants so far. He is not afraid to play a physical brand of hockey, but at the same time, he knows how to straddle the line and not take penalties. The goals will come as he continues to improve game after game.

Ethan Semeniuk

Usually found on Halaburad’s wing, Ethan Semeniuk has had a solid start to the season thanks to his speed and ability to stickhandle in tight spaces. This player is not afraid to go to the net and has been rewarded with two goals through six games. However, the best part of his game is that he does not make major mistakes while out on the ice. He definitely has a bright future with the organization.

Damian Palmieri

Although fans may not notice him much, Damian Palmieri has been strong in every game so far this season. He can get the puck on net and throws hits every chance he gets. Lastly, he doesn’t cause too many turnovers. He is smart with the puck and should be a top-four defenceman by next season.

The Future is Bright

GM Barclay Parneta and his team should be applauded for finding and bringing in these rookies this season. All six have had significant impacts on the team and should help push for a playoff spot this season. Make sure to check out these rookies at the Langley Event Centre all season as they try and level their mark in the WHL.
