Giants release new alternate jerseys

The Vancouver Giants made headlines around the WHL on Tuesday with the announcement of their new alternate jersey. This jersey features Jack the Giant’s head as a logo for the first time. Without further ado, here is the jersey review.

The jersey itself

This jersey is one of the sharpest in the WHL. First off, the black colour really pops off the screen. It makes the jersey look very dynamic and sharp.

Next, you have the gold and red accent stripes located on the jersey’s socks, arms, and bottom. These really make the jersey pop and should make them look even more dynamic on the ice.

Lastly, you have the skate laces around the neck area. There is something about those skate laces that make every jersey look better.

The Giants did a great job designing a jersey that is marketable. They had over 1,000 likes on Twitter, and the general comments were of excitement and people asking when they could buy them. Some think they are similar to the Calgary Hitmen jerseys, but these are sharper. We still do not know what colour the numbers and nameplate will be, but it’s safe to say these jerseys are a home run.

The logo

The other interesting part of the jersey is the logo. Instead of going for the traditional “Jack the Giant” holding his hockey stick, the team went just with his head. The gold outline on the logo really makes it stand out from the rest of the jersey. Going with just the head also provides an alternate logo that is still related to the original.

There are some people who claim this is the same as the Johnny Canuck logo used by the Vancouver Canucks. While it may have been based on the 1952 Western Hockey League Canucks logo, the NHL’s Canucks only started using Johnny Canuck as of 2007.

Meanwhile, the Giants have used Jack the Giant since the team’s inception in 2001. If anything, it pays tribute to the original WHL team in Vancouver and not a copy of the NHL team’s logo.

Final thoughts

In conclusion, the jersey is fantastic. It is going to be a fan favourite in the arena and will look sharp on the ice. The Giants nailed most of the jersey. The only minor critique is the neckline is a bit thick but overall, this is a great jersey. It’s another home run from a team with a history of producing fantastic secondary jerseys.
