Giants hold on for a 5-3 victory over Everett on Friday night

Friday night at the Langley Events Centre, the Vancouver Giants (23-29-4-0) continued their stretch of eight games against U.S. Division teams when they hosted the Everett Silvertips (39-10-3-5). It was the third meeting of the season between the two teams.

The G-men entered the game with a 1-1 season record over the Tips. The Silvertips took the first meeting with a 4-1 victory back in November at the LEC, but the Giants were able to get a come-from-behind 6-5 road victory on December 4th. The win streak continued into Friday’s game as the G-men held on to a 4-3 lead and finished the game with a 5-3 victory.

Despite decent chances on both sides of the ice, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening frame. The shots favored the Silvertips 7-6.

Jackson Berezowski (39) opened the scoring with a Power Play goal that came off his stick from the left side of the ice.

Nicco Camazzola (3) responded for Vancouver when he roofed a shot from the right faceoff circle to tie the game at 1 going into the second period.

The shots after the middle frame were 14-13 for Everett.

In the third period, the Giants took the lead when Adam Hall sniped a shot on the Power Play past the Silvertips starting goaltender Braden Holt. Holt would later be replaced by Koehn MacInnes after giving up four goals to Vancouver.

Evan Toth (4), and Adam Hall (16th and 2nd of the game) scored to extend Vancouver’s lead to 4-1.

Jackson Berezowski (40th and second of the game) and Alex Swetlikoff (27th) brought the Silvertips within a goal of tying Vancouver at 4.

Payton Mount got an empty-net goal, the insurance goal, to secure the victory for the Giants.

The shots in the third period were 14-9 for Everett. Everett ended the night with 35 shots on goal while Vancouver had 28.

Braden Holt stopped 22/26 shots before being replaced by Koen MacInnes with 13:46 remaining in the hockey game. MacInnes had an answer for the one shot that came his way.

Connor Martin stopped 32/35 shots for Vancouver.

After picking up the victory in an entertaining and heated game the Giants will head back to the states to conclude their home-and-home stretch with Everett. The game plan for Vancouver is simple, play like they just played. Another game where different players can contribute offensively and one where Vancouver can maintain their composure will give the Giants a great shot at their third win of the season over Everett.

Tomorrow night’s game is set for 7:00 p.m.
