All you need to know about Jacob Boucher

Jacob Boucher, one of the newest Giants, was born on March 21, 2003, in Legal, Alberta. Boucher is one of four Alberta-born players currently on the Giants roster. Mazden Leslie (Lloydminster, AB), Zack Ostapchuk (St. Albert, AB), and Adam Hall (Edmonton, AB) fill out the Alberta pride.

Boucher was drafted in the ninth round, 187th overall, by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2017. Boucher spent his first three seasons of WHL hockey with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He would go on to play a total of 19 games with the Hurricanes and recorded one goal and three assists in that time.

The Alberta product made his mark in the WHL on January 9, 2018, in a game against the Red Deer Rebels. Boucher would get one shot on net and his Hurricanes team would go on to defeat the Rebels 5-4 in a shootout. Former Giants player Brad Morrison was a teammate of Boucher’s at the time.

Eleven days after making his debut in the WHL, Boucher would score his first-ever goal against the Medicine Hat Tigers. Although the Hurricanes would go on to lose that game 4-3 in a shootout, Boucher will never forget that game. Alex Cotton (D) and Adam Hall (F) were teammates with Boucher at this time and are now teammates together on the Giants.

Former Giants, Trevor Longo (D) and Tyler Preziuso (F) were members of the Medicine Hat Tigers during that game.

Following the 2020-21 season, Boucher was traded from Lethbridge to Edmonton. Three seasons with the Hurricanes came to an end as Boucher became a member of the Oil Kings. Boucher would go on to play a total of 30 games with the Oil Kings prior to being traded to the Vancouver Giants. During his time with Edmonton, the forward hit double-digits in both goals and assists as he scored 10 goals and was credited with 10 assists. December 12 marked Jacob’s final game with the Oil Kings. His last game with Edmonton was a successful one for the Oil Kings as the team would go on to defeat the Swift Current Broncos 8-5.

Last Friday, marked Boucher’s first game with the Giants and the 2002-born forward’s 50th career WHL game. Boucher was acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline from the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Justin Sourdif deal and hadn’t played in over a month due to a leg injury that he suffered while he was with the Oil Kings. Boucher adds depth up front to this Giants team and made an early impact in his first appearance by scoring his first goal in his new home at the 9:05 mark of the first period. Boucher’s 11th of the season and first as a Giant was a result of a 2-on-1 play with teammate Payton Mount. Through 32 games this season, Boucher now has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points.

BONUS: Jacob Boucher has worn five different numbers on his back since beginning his WHL career with Lethbridge during the 2017-18 regular season. He wore #12 during the 2017-18 regular season, and #9 in 2018 pre-season hockey with Lethbridge. #14 was worn for a little longer as he had that number during the 2019 pre-season and 2019-20 as well as the 2020-21 regular season with the Hurricanes. Boucher started this season with the #10 on his back as an Oil King and doubled that number when he came to Vancouver as he is currently wearing #20 with the G-men. Those are a lot of numbers and Giants fans hope that those numbers can turn into points as the team looks to keep their dreams of playing past the regular season alive.
