Canada played its lone pre-tournament game prior to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup on Saturday defeating Slovakia 4-1. Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Kaiden Guhle and Portland Winterhawks forward Seth Jarvis each hit the scoresheet with goals while Brandon Wheat Kings forward Ridly Greig garnered an assist. Vancouver Giants 2019 CHL Import Draft pick Samuel Knazko assisted on Slovakia’s lone goal.

Canada dropped its final game of the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase to their rivals from south of the 49th parallel. Kelowna Rockets forward Nolan Foote led the Canadian team with a goal and an assist. Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman Braden Schneider notched a goal of his own while Calgary Hitmen forward Carson Focht assisted on Foote’s goal.

Switzerland has announced its roster for the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Simon Knak and Keanu Derungs who were teammates with Kloten’s U-20 team in the Swiss U-20 Elite League and who were both selected in the 2019 CHL Import Draft were among those to crack the roster.
Knak was selected by the Portland Winterhawks in the first round of this year’s Import Draft. Last year with Kloten’s U-20 team, he had 14 goals and 11 assists in 37 games. The Victoria Royals selected Derungs, also in the first round, of this year’s Import Draft. He registered five goals and nine assists in 34 games.

Goaltender Adin Hill (115 GP with the Portland Winterhawks) has re-signed with the Arizona Coyotes on a one-year contract. The Comox, B.C. native was drafted in the third round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by Arizona. Hill, who stands at six-foot-six and weighs 203 pounds, has played 17 games over two seasons with Arizona.
