Bolzano’s “short-term” goalie ends his career and becomes a coach!

His involvement in the win2day ICE Hockey League was only a very short one, now the Finnish goalkeeper Christopher Gibson is putting his goalie pads in the corner.

In the 2025/26 season, the 33-year-old moved to South Tyrol in mid-December and only played in a few games. In total, he guarded the Foxes’ goal for 240 minutes. In the end there was a win: a 3-0 shutout on December 30th against the Pioneers Vorarlberg. In his other missions, however, Gibson was only convincing to a limited extent – his catch rate was ultimately only 87.9%

No success in Germany either

Gibson moved to the DEL at the end of February, where he joined the Schwenninger Wild Wings. He was on the ice in two games and conceded an average of 4.14 goals. Both games, against the Adler Mannheim and the Straubing Tigers, were lost.

NHL as a career highlight

Now the left catcher has decided to end his active career. This took the former 2nd round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings to the best league in the world for a few games, where he played for the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning. He played 244 American Hockey League games before Gibson moved to Europe in 2023. Before the commitment in Bolzano, the Finn guarded the goal of Rauma Lukko, HC Nove Zamky and the Kassel Huskies.

It is exactly there, with the Kassel Huskies, that Christopher Gibson will work as a goalie and video coach in 2026/27.
