The Austrian national team is facing a real final against the USA at the Ice Hockey World Cup – but personnel concerns are growing before the decisive group game.
After the 2:5 defeat against
Finland had to team boss
Roger Bader worry about two important key performers. As well as

Rohrer again plagued by pain
The stress of the past few days is particularly noticeable on Rohrer. The Vorarlberg native has been struggling with ankle problems throughout the tournament and, according to Bader in the ORF interview, “played the entire World Cup with pain.” After a duel, the symptoms worsened, which is why the coaching team didn’t want to take any risks and took the attacker off the ice early.
Shoulder problems in dwarfs
Zwerger also had to leave early. The striker is suffering from shoulder problems after being hit hard during a check against Latvia. He was therefore spared in the game against Switzerland.
Bader still hopes for the all-clear: “I hope it’s nothing worse.”
Decision game against the USA
Despite the worries, the Austrian team boss is cautiously optimistic that both players will be fit in time. However, a final decision should only be made shortly.
In the last group game against
USA Austria’s goal is to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Even a win after extra time or a shootout would secure the ÖEHV team’s place in the top eight.
