A first step has been taken. The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV narrowly prevailed 2-1 in the first game of the pre-playoff series against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. Kevin Hancock played a key role in the Draustadt team’s important home win with a brace.
The 28-year-old Canadian has been storming for the Eagles since 2023 and has scored 65 goals in 179 regular season games. Remarkable: in three years he only missed five regular season games. Hancock has become an integral part of the Villach offensive and delivers consistently. Although he didn’t come close to his best performance from last season (53) with 39 points this year, he still ended up in third place in the team’s internal ranking, behind Adam Helewka (45) and Nikita Scherbak (43).
In the first game against Villach, the striker scored twice – it was his 13th double in VSV’s uniform: “Those were my two most important goals so far for Villach. I’m over the moon. It was a really difficult match, Linz was so strong defensively. But we’re now very close to promotion, so we really have to give it our all again on Friday away from home,” Hancock told the “Crown newspaper“.
Michael Kernberger celebrated a successful debut, scoring the game-winner to make it 2-1: “You have to work so hard for every goal against Linz – we pressed and then deserved the win. In overtime you could see that we had even more gas.”
Tomorrow, Friday, VSV can book its ticket for the quarter-finals in Linz.
