Villacher SV has its back against the wall in the quarterfinals of the ICE Hockey League. After three defeats against the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the Carinthians are 0-3 behind in the series and have to win today in front of their home crowd to still have a chance of a game five.
Philipp Lindner, now captain of the VSV due to the injury of Alex Rauchwald, is combative to the “Kleine Zeitung” and appeals to the team’s cohesion: “We simply have to have a lot more traffic in front of the opponent’s goal, block goalie Maxime Lagace’s view. If we manage to put the Graz defenders under pressure for a longer period of time, the important victory is also possible.”
Lindner knows exactly what was lacking in the previous duels: “We always gave the 99ers a few minutes of breathing room in every game, and that’s exactly what they took advantage of. Now it’s time to play consistently for over 60 minutes. Together, if everyone pulls together, we can do it and force a game five.”
A real show of strength is required for the VSV in front of their home crowd.
