The Vienna Capitals are disillusioned after another early end to the season. Due to the elimination in the pre-play-off against Fehérvár, the Viennese missed out on a place in the quarter-finals of the ICE Hockey League for the third time in a row. The need for reappraisal within the club is correspondingly great.
Sports director Christian Dolezal admitted that the disappointment still weighs heavily days later. Although the team improved athletically compared to the previous season and improved significantly, especially in the second half of the season, the performances in the decisive games were crucial. In the last two games, the Capitals conceded eight goals – including several goals when they were outnumbered – and ultimately had to admit defeat.
Dolezal is self-critical
Numerous injuries, especially on defense, made the situation even more difficult. Nevertheless, the club had increased personnel during the season, which is why those responsible have now announced a comprehensive analysis.
Dolezal told the “Kronen Zeitung”: “In the end, I am responsible for the sporting side. Of course, I question myself every day.” The goal remains to lead the club back into the play-offs and at least into the quarter-finals in the future. With which squad we’ll see…
