Goalkeeper Sebastian Wraneschitz and the Vienna Capitals continue their collaboration. The 24-year-old Viennese extended his contract with his hometown club for another two years.
Wraneschitz, who trained with the Capitals, underlined his excellent development with outstanding performances in the last regular season. With a catch rate of 92.36 percent, the left catcher was the third best goalie in the league among all goalkeepers who played more than ten regular season games.
Sebastian Wraneschitz played 18 games in the previous regular season. In these, the Viennese recorded a catch rate of 92.36 percent and an average of 2.25 goals conceded per 60 minutes – both personal top values in the professional sector. In addition, the 24-year-old recorded both shutouts for the Viennese team last season. The fact that Wraneschitz was only able to play 18 games this season was due to a lower body injury that he sustained at the beginning of November and resulted in a month-long break. In the 2024/25 season, Wraneschitz played 26 league games and recorded a catch rate of 89.9 percent. In the 2023/24 season, the first after his return to Vienna, there were 15 games with a save percentage of 89.8 percent.
Before returning to Vienna in 2023, Wraneschitz served in North America for two seasons. In the USHL, the Viennese guarded the goal for the Tri-City Storm and in the WHL for the Victoria Royals. In the 2020/21 season, Wraneschitz made his professional debut for the Capitals and made a total of 13 appearances. The self-made goalie also gained experience in Finland and Sweden in the 2019/20 season. The Viennese was also able to leave his calling card in various red-white-red selection teams. Wraneschitz has played three international matches for the Austrian men’s national team, most recently as part of the World Cup preparations. In the narrow 0-1 defeat against Latvia on April 9th, the Caps goalie was impressive with a catch rate of 96.67 percent. At the U20 World Cup in 2020, the Viennese drew international attention with some outstanding performances. Against Sweden, the goalkeeper saved a total of 61 shots, which resulted in a catch rate of 93.8 percent despite conceding four goals. Wraneschitz also represented the red-white-red U20 at the 2021 World Cup tournament.
Statement by Sebastian Wraneschitz
I’m looking forward to the next two years at the Vienna Capitals and especially to the new season. For me it is important not only to build on my performance from the previous season, but to continue working and building on it. I want to show the viewers what we can do. As a team, we really want to at least make it to the quarter-finals. My personal goal is to take the next step and help the team.
Statement Christian Dolezal, sporting director of the Vienna Capitals
We are pleased that Sebi has decided to extend his contract with us for two seasons. His development in recent years is clearly visible and is also reflected in the excellent figures from the previous season. Sebi always works hard and is very ambitious. We want to give him the best possible support in his development, which is not yet complete.
