The Austrian goalie Max Zimmerman is apparently about to return to the ICE Hockey League – and has the Villacher SV a rejection was given. The 26-year-old Viennese, who is with the Frederikshavn White Hawks was under contract, may have opted for another option in Austria instead, as the “Kleine Zeitung” reports.
Zimmermann, who is one of the offspring of the Vienna Capitals has only been able to show itself briefly in the top domestic league. He made two appearances in the ICEHL, but impressed with a strong catch rate of 94.4 percent and a goals against average of just 1.50. However, its development only really took off in recent years.
Especially at EK Zell am See the goalkeeper matured into a top performer. In the 2024/25 season he played an outstanding role on the way to the AlpsHL title, with a catch rate of 93.5 percent in the regular season and even 94.5 percent in the playoffs. His goals conceded average of 1.92 and 1.53 in the decisive phase also impressively underlined his class.
His subsequent move abroad brought additional experience: In France, Zimmermann made 17 appearances in the Ligue Magnus before moving to Denmark. There he impressed with strong performances and currently has a catch rate of 93.5 percent.
Now the native of Vienna is likely to return to his homeland and form the Caps’ goalkeeper duo with Sebastian Wraneschitz next season. There is no official confirmation yet.
