The Austrian national ice hockey team continues to generate enthusiasm at the World Championships in Zurich and is increasingly becoming the focus of the local sports public. With strong performances and the chance of reaching the quarter-finals, the Red-White-Red team not only thrilled the fans in the arena, but also the TV viewers in Austria.
This development is now also noticeable in the television program: rights holder ORF reacted at short notice and moved the World Cup duel against Germany on Saturday evening to the main program on ORF 1, reports the “Small newspaper“.
The encounter was originally only planned on ORF Sport+ due to the late start time of 8:20 p.m. However, due to the enormous sporting significance of the neighborhood duel – it is about promotion to the World Cup quarter-finals – the public broadcaster decided to place it prominently in prime time.
Even the regular evening program has to be adjusted for the live broadcast: a planned broadcast of a popular Eberhofer crime story has been canceled in favor of the ice hockey thriller against Germany.
The increasing attention clearly shows the importance that Austrian ice hockey has currently achieved. The national team is once again causing euphoria at the World Cup and could write another chapter in its success story with a win against Germany.
