Milan as an ICE newcomer? – “Would go there immediately!”

The win2day ICE Hockey League could continue to grow for the 2026/27 season: As confirmed by the league, a team from the Milan officially applied for participation. The fashion metropolis, most recently the venue for the Winter Olympics, would like to take part in the multinational league’s games in the future.

League President Christian Feichtinger described the application as “interesting” and sees great potential in the location. “We have to wait and see what the project could look like. But Milan would be a location where we would go immediately,” Feichtinger told the “Crown newspaper“. Salzburg manager Helmut Schlögl is also positive about joining. However, he emphasizes that the project must be sustainable and solidly financed: “Just because of the city. The location would be comparable to Budapest or Vienna and therefore a benefit for the league. Of course, the most important thing is that it is sustainable and well-founded. A shaky candidate would not be the right thing.”

Several points are still open: Although a hall on the exhibition grounds is to be secured for three years, a planned new building has not yet been finalized. The future club name has not yet been decided. Milan would be the third Italian team in the league after HCB Südtirol Alperia and HC Falkensteiner Pustertal.

The approval of the existing 13 clubs will also be crucial – more than half would have to give the green light. Despite possible longer away trips, the league is optimistic that it will find workable solutions.
