Marcello Cobelli, Italy’s representative on the Board of Governors, speaks plainly. The club explained its intentions in a letter weeks ago. In further discussions it became clear that the organizational and financial effort was no longer acceptable for those responsible in Merano. “I consider it official,” said Cobelli. This is not a decision against the league, but rather a question of economic feasibility.
In fact, the HCM had let the registration deadline for the coming 2026/27 season pass. Theoretically there is still room for maneuver, but there is currently little to suggest a backwards role. President Stefan Kobler recently only indicated that something fundamentally needed to change either in the league or in the club itself.
