The EC-KAC returned from the long Olympic break on Friday evening with a shutout home win. The Red Jackets won the game against Olimpija Ljubljana 2-0 in the final third and thus secured home advantage in the quarter-finals.
Comment from Assistant Coach David Fischer:
“It’s been almost three weeks since our last game, so we can be very happy with the result today, but also with many elements in our game. The start was a bit rusty, so it was perhaps a good thing that Ljubljana had already returned from the break on Wednesday, so we had to pick up the pace and intensity straight away. We had to resolve some difficult situations at the beginning, but one of the good qualities of our team is to quickly find ways to build up intensity and belligerence and bring it onto the ice. We managed to do that, even if it was overall It wasn’t a nice ice hockey game. They have some players with a short fuse in their squad, I think we showed a little more style and class than the opponent today. I don’t really like the word deserved in a sporting context, but today I think the game was won by the right team, we were able to prove that we can find different paths to success, today we’ll take a breather and then we’ll look forward to it the game in Graz on Sunday”
