The Vienna Capitals win 1:4 at the Black Wings Linz. For the Viennese it is the third win from the last four games and they secure 7th place in the table.
The Vienna Capitals secured their ticket to the pre-playoffs with a 4-1 away win at the Steinbach Black Wings Linz on Friday evening. In an intense game, the Viennese team turned the game around after falling behind early on and deservedly prevailed.
Linz shooting star Jonathan Oschgan gave the home team the lead in the 15th minute (14:51). The Capitals responded promptly: Randy Gazzola scored with a long-range shot before the first break to make it 1-1 (17:56).
In the second half the guests increasingly took control. After a quick switch, Simon Bourque took the lead for Vienna for the first time in the 28th minute (27:35). Sebastian Wraneschitz, who started in place of Evan Cowley, impressed with numerous saves and kept his team in the game even when Linz was under pressure.
Early in the final third, Zane Franklin (42:50) made it 3-1. The Capitals then acted calmly, defended consistently and also let a Linz power play go by without a shot on goal. Carter Souch put the final point with his empty-net goal in the 59th minute (58:20).
With 64 points, the Caps are seventh in the table and now have a fixed pre-playoff place.
