ICEHL transfer: National team defender Schnetzer signs long-term!

Defender Ramón Schnetzer, who moved to the Vienna Capitals before the pre-playoffs, is staying permanently in the federal capital! The 29-year-old World Cup participant signed a two-year contract with the two-time champions. In the past pre-playoffs, Schnetzer played all three games. Over the course of his career, the Vorarlberg player played 404 games in what is now the win2day ICE Hockey League and eight appearances at the Ice Hockey World Championships.

At the beginning of March, Ramón Schnetzer joined the Vienna Capitals for the pre-playoffs. The defender played all three of Vienna’s pre-playoff games and left an expectedly positive impression. Schnetzer began the 2025/26 season with the Pioneers Vorarlberg, for whom the Feldkirch native had been active since the 2024/25 season. In the previous regular season, the defender recorded 18 points (4 goals + 14 assists), which equals the most offensively productive regular season of his career. For the Pioneers, Schnetzer played a total of 95 games in two seasons. The now 29-year-old completed the playoffs of the 2024/25 season wearing the Moser Medical Graz99ers jersey. Schnetzer spent the 2023/24 season at HC Thurgau in the Swiss League. Before his Swiss adventure, the defender was active for the Steinbach Black Wings Linz for two seasons. Schnetzer played 106 league games for the Upper Austrians.

Between October 2019 and summer 2021, the defender played 96 league games for the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Schnetzer made his breakthrough at the highest level in Austria at the EC-KAC. The defender joined the Red Jackets organization for the 2016/17 season. The left-handed shooter played 108 league games for Klagenfurt. The crowning achievement of his KAC time was winning the championship title in the 2018/19 season. Schnetzer has been part of ÖEHV team boss Roger Bader’s regular squad for years. At the 2025 World Cup, where the red-white-red selection reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 1994, the defender played all eight games. Over the course of his career, Schnetzer played 69 international matches.

Statement Ramón Schnetzer

“I’m really looking forward to the next two years in Vienna! It’s always been a goal of mine to play here. I have family and friends in Vienna, so this move was always something I wanted. It finally worked out! I’ve played in the STEFFL Arena many times, but never as a Capitals player before the pre-playoffs. Running in front of so many fans is an incredible feeling. The team welcomed me really well, so I can’t wait until it starts again!”
