Bolzano is fighting against the end of the season
Bolzano urgently needs a home win because the team is 1:3 behind in the series against Ljubljana. On Thursday, the Slovenians celebrated a 4-0 home win – their first success in front of a home crowd in this series. Olimpija won both matches in Bolzano 3-2, once after overtime. If the Slovenians win again on Thursday, it would be the first semi-final appearance for Olimpija, which has only been in the quarter-finals in its debut season in 2022 and was narrowly defeated by Villach 3-4. The predecessor club from Slovenia’s capital even made it to the final. Should Bozen actually be eliminated, it would be the tenth time since the introduction of the quarter-final pick (2012/13) that the fourth place in the basic round does not make it to the semi-finals. The fact that neither the third place – in this case Salzburg, who have already been eliminated – nor the fourth place make it to the semi-finals has only happened four times so far (2023, 2016, 2015, 2014).
