ICEHL preview: All information about the start of the quarterfinals!

The win2day ICE Hockey League starts the quarterfinals on Tuesday. None of the four series have been in the playoffs so far. The game between regular season winners Moser Medical Graz99ers and EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV will be broadcast live on ORF Sport+.

Moser Medical Graz99ers – EC iDM heat pumps VSV

  • The history of Graz and Villach goes back a long time, but the last time there were real playoff duels was in the early 1990s, some time before the 99ers were founded and the league was re-founded.
  • For the third time in league history, the 99ers won the basic round and thus had the first pick.
  • VSV beat Linz in the pre-playoffs and reached the quarter-finals for the seventh time in a row.
  • Villach prevailed in the first duel of the season, after which Graz retained the upper hand three times and only conceded two goals in these duels.

EC-KAC – Hydro Fehérvár AV19

  • The EC-KAC starts its 39th playoff campaign as second in the regular round and, in a tried and tested manner, chose the worst-placed available opponent: Fehérvár AV19 (rank 10).
  • All four duels of the season went to the KAC in the regular round, two of them only after extra time or a penalty shootout.
  • The Red Jackets can build on a strong home record against teams outside the top 6 (13 wins in 14 home games against ranks 7-13).
  • Fehérvár comes with tailwind from the pre-playoffs, where after a 1:5 false start against the Vienna Capitals, a 7:3 home win and a 1:0 away win secured their place in the quarterfinals.

EC Red Bull Salzburg – HC Falkensteiner Pustertal

  • Defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg begin their mission of “fifth title in a row”.
  • The Red Bulls secured third place with a strong finish in the first half.
  • Pustertal has continuously improved in its five league seasons and arrives in fifth place in the table in good form, supported by recent victories against Ljubljana (3:2 OT) and in Villach (1:0).
  • The South Tyroleans won three duels this season, but most recently Salzburg retained the upper hand at home 2-1 after overtime.

HCB Südtirol Alperia – Olimpija Ljubljana

  • HCB Südtirol Alperia was automatically drawn against HK Olimpija Ljubljana as the remaining top 4 club.
  • In the end, there were five points between fourth-placed Bozen and sixth-placed Ljubljana. In the season comparison, the score is 2:2, with the home team winning in each case so far.
  • The Foxes emerged victorious ten times from 18 direct duels, plus 16 home wins in 24 games this season.
  • Olimpija has a balanced record away from home with twelve wins and twelve defeats.
