ICEHL: Jordan Murray has already contacted his teammates!

At EC KAC, the situation surrounding defender Jordan Murray continues to cause great emotions – but at the same time there is also the first positive news. The Canadian, who collapsed on the ice in the original play-off opener against Fehérvár AV19 and had to be resuscitated, is on the mend, according to the club. Murray has now even contacted some teammates and could be transferred to the normal ward in the coming days.

The first training session after the incident was an emotional moment for the team. Captain Clemens Unterweger told the “Kronen Zeitung” that it was a “strange feeling” to be back on the ice where the incident occurred. The shock is still deep, but at the same time every positive news about her teammate’s health brings great relief. It was particularly important for the team that Murray had already reacted to messages and “written normally” – that significantly brightened the mood in the dressing room.

Unterweger also remembered the dramatic minutes immediately after the collapse. Shortly before, he was joking with Murray on the bench before the situation suddenly escalated. The approximately 20 minutes until the all-clear sounded would have felt like hours for the players. The captain expressed great appreciation to the first responders who saved his teammate’s life. The fact that his condition is now improving is almost a miracle for him.

In terms of sport, the quarter-final series against Fehérvár now begins again on Sunday in Klagenfurt and will be played in a best-of-seven format. According to Unterweger, the first game will still be a special challenge for the team. Each player has to decide for themselves whether they are mentally ready to go back on the ice. At the same time, the captain is sure: When Murray is fully recovered, it will be an enormous motivation for the KAC.
