The 2025/26 season of the win2day ICE Hockey League is behind HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie. It was a season to forget, we look forward. A number of personnel decisions have already been made, one of which is particularly explosive.
48 games, 28 points, 13th place in the table and only 118 goals scored. People in Tyrol prefer to keep a cloak of silence about the past season. The offensive problems were obvious, so it is clear that improvements need to be made here. None other than Brady Shaw, from whom we parted ways a few years ago, should contribute to this. Now people are celebrating the comeback.
“Everyone should be given a second chance in life and everyone knows that they are a great player. The board’s decision at the time was right for several reasons, but we still stand by the fact that we have come together again on good terms. He has changed his lifestyle. We discussed bringing back the coach’s dream player more often and in detail. Our shortcoming was that we had no players who made a difference. With Owre, Benker and Shaw we are well positioned again,” said HCI General Manager Günter Hanschitz to the “Tiroler daily newspaper”.
Shaw impressed with ICE newcomer FTC-Telekom this year with 50 points. Now he wants to continue his glorious career with the Sharks; in 2023 he was even voted the league’s “most valuable player” after a 69-point season.
Transfers and destinations
Hanschitz also emphasizes that the transfers are already quite advanced, but there are no names. The only thing that is certain is that there will be a change, because only a few legionnaires who took to the ice for Innsbruck last year will remain with the club. Jan Lattner, who spent many years with the Tyroleans, is also no longer there, but there were reasons why the collaboration ended after seven years: “It will no longer be possible to be a legionnaire and he has not applied for naturalization. But we have mutually agreed that he should work in the youth department, and we will also support him in other ways on behalf of the board.”
A realistic goal is to consider ranks 7 to 10. HC Innsbruck lacks the necessary change for more: “ It’s a tiresome topic, but we certainly don’t have enough money for the top six. As already mentioned, I hope for the support of all sponsors.”
